She stole my every rock ‘n’ roll, my hymns

So yeah, cycling blog whatever. Last night I finally got to see a full performance of a Mills & Boon Swoon. And it was beyond fabulous. Nette and Amy came along too, which was great. Thanks Eleanor and Betsy for creating a spoken word experience that is accessible, engaging, universal, and yet of course so personal and idiosyncratic.

I guess that might be one of the signs of good poetry: that you can hear it and identify with it, but also go “holy crap, that is a brilliant turn of phrase, that is so you”. (As if I have any expertise in determining what is ‘good poetry’).

Anyway, if you get a chance, etc etc. Melbourne and Canberra are the next places they will perform the Swoon (for my Victorian and ACT readers, haha). And Woodford! See the Swoon there!

Cycling-related note: you meet some of the most interesting people on your bike.

PS. Apologies for image of Eleanor only, even though its a great shot. Pic from here, taken at the Qld Poetry Festival. The one I found of both was far less good.

Update: A Mills & Boon Swoon is now called ‘She Stole My Every Rock ‘n’ Roll’. Elle & Betsy were a bit concerned about getting a cease-and-desist letter one day from a publisher of romance novels.
