I hope that ads that make you feel good are effective

Because even though this little video is an advertisement (for Lululemon clothing, I am not their target market, ha), this is the sort of cycling stuff that makes me smile. And the more I smile about cycling, the more I ride.

Strong women doing strong stuff and having fun with it. Let me hit the ‘Like’ button on that one.

And I’m fortunate enough to see lots of that around me at the moment as well.

Some of the fabulous women (cyclists and non-cyclists both) that I know don’t always understand how awesome they are, and I struggle to articulate it in a way that works & doesn’t sound  trite.

But everything that I like about cycling (potential for inclusiveness, winning the battle against yourself, the endorphin-fueled feel-good factor, enjoyment of the ‘natural world’ etc etc) is enhanced when there are female cyclists mixed in with the blokes, and diminished when women are missing from the picture.

This post has been brewing inside of me since AB posted about feminism on her blog and was disappointed by the reaction of some of her readers. (But being the superstar she is, AB was undeterred and has started a ‘Strong Women’ series of posts. Check it out.)

And I understand that I run the risk of sounding a bit slimey. But it seems to me that 50% of the population has missed out on heaps of the good stuff of life, for century upon century. Because of The Patriarchalness. And if that’s changing these days, then it’s only about time.

  1. I’d just like to point out that while wandering through the revamped Carindale shopping centre last night I stumbled across a Lululemon store, on the ground floor near Myers.

You know, for those bloggers who have a Lululemon crush that needs fulfilling.
